Going high again was occupying a lot of my thoughts. I felt I could achieve more, but Colin was finished with illness and altitude for the moment. His physiology just didn’t allow him to go well up there. I’d have to find someone else for future expeditions. We’d learned so much together trusting one another with our lives. The thought of parting was sad and painful, even though we knew we would always have a deep friendship. I was lucky. I'd climb with my brother Pete now and again, along with a friend called Adam Brown. Adam and I clicked as a climbing partnership.
At that time I’d also met Lizzie and we were married in 1982. She began to climb and we began a new partnership.
