During our family summer holidays on the Isle of Anglesey I happened upon massive rocks which turned out to be Prehistoric tombs. A precious few had carvings incised into them.
After successful A-level results, I went on to study sculpture and painting and gained a distinction for my work. I wrote my thesis on why the Anglesey tomb styles were unexpectedly different.
As it happened what I thought up back then was an original theory. For two years, I used my free time to hitch-hike around France, Ireland, Wales and Scotland finding evidence and exploring my idea. Nowadays the evidence shows there was truth in it. Neolithic man, it seems, made sophisticated sea journeys that linked West coast communities. Trade happened and ideas spread. Anglesey became the place where these different artistic styles met.
